Position: Accounting Clerk
Location: Remote, Full-Time
Are you an experienced and detail-oriented accounting or bookkeeping professional who thrives in a collaborative environment? We are looking for an enthusiastic Accounting Clerk who is passionate about client service and enjoys tackling challenges with a problem-solving mindset.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining clients' financial records, particularly related to sales tax. You'll verify the accuracy of these records, then use them to prepare, file, and pay clients' sales tax returns in both the U.S. and Canada. Your expertise will ensure that all records are accurate, and that filings are completed on time, meeting all regulatory deadlines.
Key to your success in this position will be your attention to detail, ability to use Excel and tax/accounting software, and your willingness to learn new skills. Experience with accounting and tax software like QuickBooks Online, Shopify, WooCommerce, NetSuite, Avalara, and TaxJar is ideal, but not required.
Responsibilities:
Collect sales data from various accounting and tax software programs like QuickBooks Online, Shopify, WooCommerce, NetSuite, Avalara, and TaxJar
Verify the accuracy of clients' sales data
Prepare drafts of sales tax returns for clients' monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual filings, ensuring full regulatory compliance
Communicate with clients to obtain approval and process payments for pending filings
Advise clients on best practices, tax law changes, and other tax-related matters
Manage multiple filing deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively
Qualifications:
Availability: Full-time, onsite position (5 days a week)
Customer Service: Committed to exceeding client expectations and delivering exceptional service
Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, finance, or a related field
Experience: Experience with filing tax returns is a plus, particularly sales tax returns, though we are open to training motivated individuals
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills, able to explain complex tax concepts to clients and communicate with state tax agencies
Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset, able to identify client challenges and provide tailored solutions
Tech-Savvy: Proficient in Excel and familiar with accounting/tax software programs (QuickBooks Online, Shopify, WooCommerce, NetSuite, Avalara, TaxJar, etc.)
Time Management: Skilled at managing deadlines and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment
Team Player: Collaborative and able to contribute to a supportive, team-focused workplace
Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly rate: $20.00 - $22.50
