Job Description

Position: Assistant Principal

Rate: $60 to $65 per hour

 

Focused Staffing Group seeks an experienced  Assistant Principal to join our partner school in  Philadelphia, PA.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Principal will assist the school principal in the provision of direction, leadership, and day-to-day management of educational activities. The AP plays an integral role in the establishment and maintenance of a school climate and culture that is conducive to learning; including overseeing the enforcement of school rules, regulations, and policies, and implementation of disciplinary measures.

The AP will work collaboratively with the Administrative Council to model professional leadership and guidance for the entire school, to direct and maintain the unique culture and vision of the organization, to nurture key community relationships, and to provide objective, data-driven, and mission-centered departmental perspective to executive-level decision-making.

 

Responsibilities :

Essential Functions :

  • Serves as part of the school’s administrative council; supports the principal in overseeing the administration of the school programs and the implementation of policies; assists in planning, organizing, and evaluating services for instructional staff, such as staff development activities, instructional coaching, resource management, and instructional program development.
  • Interacts with teachers and other staff in the development of materials and methodologies for instruction.
  • Tours the school building and its external perimeters to monitor safety and security; directs and coordinates staff supervision of areas such as hallways and cafeterias; ensures that school rules and expectations are enforced.
  • Handles disciplinary matters by following the school policy.
  • Conducts classroom observations on instructional staff and provides input to the principal during the teacher evaluation process.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with community-based groups, parents, and student organizations, and develops resources within the community.
  • May coordinate extracurricular activities and engage in before-school, after-school, and evening activities as required.
  • Support in creating and monitoring instructional systems.
  • Supports the high school transition team in the enrollment process for 8th graders.
  • Supports the new student and family orientation.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of:

  • the principles, methods, and practices of elementary and/or secondary education.
  • the theories and principles of child growth and development.

Considerable knowledge of:

  • the principles of elementary and/or secondary level education administration.
  • current major educational issues

Knowledge of:

  • curriculum theory and development
  • alternative educational program
  • the theory and principles pertaining to the decentralization of decision-making authority and accountability for the educational process and outcomes of the individual school.

Ability to:

  • utilize computer-based communications and record-keeping systems
  • organize and coordinate the work of professional and paraprofessional personnel
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • to inspire, engage, mentor, and coach

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program at an accredited college or university
  • Five years of full-time paid, professional educational experience, three of which have been at the elementary and/or middle school level providing leadership or participating in decision-making processes, school policy development, or the establishment and implementation of educational goals and objectives

 

Certificates/Licenses:

  • Profession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Administrative Certificate for Elementary or Secondary Principal

 

Working conditions:

The working conditions include:

  • Very high levels of social interaction, with daily and consistent work with children, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Communicating with people face-to-face on a daily basis, as well as communication through phone, e-mail, letters, and memos.
  • Working very near others, within a few feet or less, which may result in exposure to diseases and infections, such as colds and influenza.
  • Exposure to loud sounds and high noise levels regularly.
  • Responsibility for the health and safety of the children in their school.
  • Being placed in conflict situations where parents, students, and/or staff might become angry or unpleasant.
  • Working as part of a team of administrators and educators.

 

Physical requirements:

The AP is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

 

Ability to Relocate:

  • Philadelphia, PA 19123: Relocate before starting work (Required)
