Position Summary The
Families and Children Pastor will develop and lead a comprehensive ministry to children and their families that is rooted in the gospel, biblically sound, and aligned with the mission and values of Kathleen Baptist Church. This includes oversight of all programming, volunteer leadership, and spiritual development strategies for children and parents. The Children and Families Pastor will be a team player who works closely with the KBC pastoral staff and church body, and be available to assist with church events and service opportunities. This position requires a 40-hour work week with allowances for seasonal/event recovery time. Regular office hours: Mon - Thurs, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm; services on Sundays and Wednesdays.
Primary Responsibilities - Develop, lead, and oversee the church’s vision for and ministry to children (nursery through 5th grade) and their families.
- Recruit and train volunteers and leaders to serve faithfully and safely within children’s ministry programs. Build and maintain healthy team dynamics among volunteers and leaders.
- Disciple children and families, fostering spiritual growth through teaching, events, and resources. Love our families and want them to experience the love of Jesus.
- Partner with parents as primary faith influencers in their homes by providing encouragement, tools, and regular communication to nurture lifelong faith in Jesus Christ.
- Develop and manage curriculum, ensuring it is biblically sound and age-appropriate.
- Coordinate events such as Vacation Bible School, family outreach, seasonal celebrations, and other special activities alongside Student Pastor and other KBC staff and volunteers.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming environment through adherence to church policies for child protection and security.
- Collaborate with pastoral staff in the overall vision and direction of the church’s ministries.
- Serve as liaison between KBC and our Child Enrichment Center
- Support transitions from children’s ministry to student ministry (e.g., 5th to 6th grade).
Qualifications - A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life that personifies the pastoral qualifications of 1 Tim 3: 1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
- Agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) and the doctrines of the Southern Baptist Convention.
- A calling to family and children’s ministry, with a shepherd’s heart for kids and parents alike.
- Bachelor’s degree required; seminary or theological education preferred.
- A history (3+ years) of experience in children’s or family ministry leadership (church or parachurch).
- Strong leadership, communication, and administrative skills.
- Able to recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers in a team environment.
- Willingness to undergo a background check and adhere to all child safety policies.
