Job Description

Would you like to trace the path of the wall that once separated East and West Berlin? Visit a Medieval Castle in Nuremburg? Ride a tram in Vienna’s historic city center? Learn about the January 2026 study tour: Memory, Monuments, and Museums in Germany and Austria by attending one of the following information sessions:

Tuesday, April 29 — 4:10-5:10 p.m., JAC 219 (Foundations Studio)

Wednesday, April 30 — 4:45-5:45 p.m., JAC 227 (Printmaking Studio)

People ice skating in front of the Rathaus in Vienna. This study tour is an opportunity for students to explore the many ways that the past is remembered, recounted, represented, and reimagined. Specifically, this course will offer students a nuanced view about how three pivotal cities in the German speaking world — Berlin, Nuremberg, and Vienna, represent and display their long and complicated histories.

During the course, students will discover the many ways in which stories about the past in Germany and Austria are represented through art, architecture, monuments, and museums. We will encounter some of the many ways these complex histories reverberate in the present day beyond Germany and Austria to the world at large.

In these information sessions, we will discuss course details, costs, itineraries, and answer questions you might have. If you are interested in this study tour but cannot make either of the sessions, please feel free to contact either of the study tour leaders, Professor Temple Burling ([email protected]) or Professor Jojin Van Winkle ([email protected]).
