Library Assistant I - Technical Services Location Mesquite, TX :

GENERAL SUMMARY Salary: $15.61/hr. minimum To provide general clerical support to the Technical Services area of the library; and to provide effective and efficient public service assistance to the public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Enter and verify a variety of data into the computer system.
  • May maintain and update inventory records.
  • May locate, adapt, create and import MARC records into the computer system for items being processed.
  • May order print and non-print materials and research vendor prices as appropriate.
  • Process library materials for circulation or in-house use.
  • Maintain a variety of files and filing systems; prepare, maintain and update various records.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls; respond to and direct inquiries.
  • Register and assist patrons at the public access computer workstations.
  • Instruct patrons in the use of the online catalog.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical data as assigned.
  • May post information about Library online.
  • May assist in training in the areas of book covering, item processing and repair of damaged library materials.
  • May prepare and ship books for binding, maintain bindery records and monitor spending for binding.
  • Work as a cooperative and supportive member of the library team.
  • Provide the best possible customer service to the public.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED. Some college is preferred .
EXPERIENCE
  • No Library experience required but is preferred.
  • Type 35 wpm.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE Work 40-hour work week alternating Friday & Saturday. Week 1 - Monday - Thursday & Saturday 9am-6pm Week 2 - Monday - Friday 9am-6pm Testing required only if interviewed: Typing, Customer Service, Excel and Word
