Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is seeking an experienced full-time Plant Operator A - D for our Boyd Water Treatment Plant, which is a 38 MGD direct filtration plant located in Loveland, Colorado. The Plant Operator will report to the Lead Plant Operator and will work with a group of committed employees and other professionals who are dedicated to operating, maintaining, and optimizing all aspects of the plant to enhance Greeley’s leadership role in the northern Colorado water community.

This plant is unique in that it operates seasonally, generally April through October. Boyd Operators will work rotating schedule of 12s,10s, or 8s for 6 months with 1 month rotation and for 6 months work 6am -4pm in Offseason. During the offseason all staff will primarily work on maintenance projects and preventative maintenance on various equipment in the plant and throughout the water system along with assist at Bellvue WTP, Transmissions, Reservoirs, or High Mountain Reservoirs as needed.

The Plant Operator will be monitoring and maintaining raw and finished water quality. Operators will adjust water treatment chemicals based on online analyzers, perform laboratory bench tests to verify quality, and adjust raw and finished flows as demands dictate. Maintenance will include online process equipment, as well as various pumps, motors, and other plant equipment. You will collaborate with plant mechanics to assist with preventative maintenance and larger projects. Other duties as assigned may be delegated to the individual.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

All Levels:

• Current valid, unrestricted Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (MVR and background check required).
• High school diploma or equivalent (in order to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado).

“A� Operator:

• Two (2) years of experience in water treatment.
• Current Class “A" Water Treatment Operator certification valid in Colorado.
• Two (2) plus years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants.

“B� Operator:

• Current Class “Bâ€� Water Treatment Operator certification valid in Colorado and must obtain Class “Aâ€� Water Treatment Operator certification valid in Colorado within two (2) years of hire.
• One and a half (1 ½) to Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants.

“C� Operator:

• Current Class “Câ€� Water Treatment Operator certification valid in Colorado and must obtain Class “Bâ€� Water Treatment Operator certification valid in Colorado within (2) years of hire.
• One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants.

“D� Operator:

• Current Class “Dâ€� Water Treatment Operator Colorado certification valid in Colorado or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
• A combination of education, experience, licensure, or certification that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered for placement level by the hiring authority.

Preferred

• Five (5) years of experience working at a Water Treatment Plant.
• Five (5) years maintenance and troubleshooting experience in water treatment and instrumentation process equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
• Ability to perform algebraic calculations of chemical feed rates and manually adjust the process pumps to output the feed rates.
• Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), PC-based methods, SCADA, and the ability to learn and experiment with new software and systems.
• Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
• Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.

Essential Functions:

• Reads and interprets gauges and meters used in regulating operations of plant equipment.
• Monitors objects and data for compliance and operating standards.
• Performs daily record keeping, water quality sampling, and routine laboratory analysis.
• Collects and analyzes water samples; records and maintains data.
• Performs other functions such as janitorial and mechanical maintenance.
• Attends safety sessions and stays informed on all safety and emergency procedures.
• Uses hand and power tools properly and safely to maintain the facility and grounds.
• Interprets water quality/quantity data and makes appropriate adjustments or recommendations.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Travel: May be required to travel to other Treatment Plants: Bellvue WTP, Transmissions, Reservoirs, or High Mountain Reservoirs as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Plant Operator A may serve as a lead operator and supervise or direct daily tasks of other operators in the absence of a Lead Operator or Supervisor.

Work Environment:

• Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals & gases, including gaseous chlorine.
• Work in a variety of weather conditions.
• Exposure to high noise levels, fumes or particles, risk of electrical shock.

Physical Requirements:

• Sufficient communication skills to convey information to Supervisor, the public, or other employees.
• The ability to remain in a standing/walking position for long periods of time.
• The ability to move items weighing up to 75 pounds and make repetitive motions.
• Ability to work at heights greater than 10 feet.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Flexibility to bend, twist and reach objects at all body levels, including overhead.
• Possible confined space entry.
• Ability to dawn and wear supplied air systems for extended periods of time.
