Oath Services is recruiting a skilled PLC Programmer for one of our esteemed clients in the packaging and containers industry. The ideal candidate will design, program, test, and maintain PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems for industrial automation in plastics manufacturing processes. You’ll collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure efficient, reliable operation of automated machinery, driving real-time data acquisition from manufacturing floor machines into the client’s ERP system. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and plastics manufacturing expertise to support innovative, data-driven solutions on behalf of our client.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in PLC programming.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming languages, including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram.
  • Experience with PLC hardware and software platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric).
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation principles specific to plastics manufacturing, including interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams for plastics production equipment.
  • Expertise in OPC UA (e.g., Codesys or similar) and machine-to-machine communication protocols for data exchange between sensors and cloud applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in plastics manufacturing environments.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Self-driven project management skills.
  • Highly preferred: Proficiency in Python for automation and data processing.
  • Preferred: Experience with Modbus, HMI, SCADA, Raspberry Pi, and IQMS/Delmia ERP.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC programs based on project requirements and specifications for plastics manufacturing processes on behalf of our client.
  • Design and implement control systems for automated machinery and processes within the plastics industry.
  • Configure and troubleshoot PLC hardware and software components specific to plastics production lines.
  • Conduct testing and debugging of PLC programs to ensure proper functionality in plastics manufacturing environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate PLC systems with other control systems, equipment, and the client’s ERP system (Delmia), ensuring real-time data flows from manufacturing floor machines.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to production and maintenance teams working with plastics processing equipment.
  • Document and maintain detailed records of PLC programs, configurations, and modifications for plastics manufacturing systems.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to PLC programming, automation, and plastics manufacturing.
