Principal Mechanical Engineer Location Chelmsford, MA (Golden Triangle area) : At Brooks, new ideas, new technologies and new ways of thinking are driving our future. Principal Mechanical Engineer Responsible for generating project plans for major robotics and automation development projects using technical expertise in electro-mechanical precision machine design with embedded software and controls; and applications engineering involving development of new products/extensions and sustaining engineering on robots used for material handling in semiconductor and adjacent industries. Duties include:
- Plan, manage and lead large development programs/projects including multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
- Manage and track engineering tasks, and determine resource requirements;
- Select motors, sensors and other electrical components used in robotics and automated machinery;
- Select and work with key suppliers and outsource partners;
- Develop new products from concept through production using a stage gate development process;
- Work with product management to define new product extension requirements per strategic plans and engineering design specifications; and
- Conduct continuous improvement process including: supporting and planning work for improving products, using quality data to determine CIP plans, sustaining engineering (manage part obsolescence and supplier issues), and leading cost reduction opportunities.
Employee may work from home within commuting distance of worksite. Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, and 7 years of robotics or automated machine design experience including the integration of electronics, firmware and motion control. Experience, which may be gained concurrently, to include each of the following: - 7 years of experience completing dynamic and design analysis.
- 4 years of experience performing bearing/motion component selection and design.
- 7 years of experience performing DFx analysis, including reliability and cost.
- 7 years of experience defining requirements specifications and developing engineering design specifications.
- 7 years of product extension and new product development experience.
- 7 years of experience working with product management to define new product extension requirements per strategic plan and engineering design specifications.
- 4 years of experience in the application of robotics used for automated material handling.
- 7 years of experience utilizing Solidworks, Creo, or similar CAD technologies.
