Job Description

Position Overview

The Process Design Engineer will be heavily involved in working with customers, sales, and engineering, to develop solutions and proposals utilizing Nijhuis Saur Industries products. This individual will have the freedom and responsibility to combine technologies from across the broad spectrum of products provided by Nijhuis Saur Industries and do discuss and determine solutions. They will advise and guide clients towards the most effective solutions regarding organic residual streams, (water) wastewater treatment, resource recovery, and process optimization.

Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Location: Knoxville, TN | On-Site | Remote Opportunities Available

Pay Range: Dependent on Experience and Level Hired | $100,000 - $150,000

Essential Duties:

  • Performing consulting services such as technical and financial feasibility studies, innovative concept development, system choices, (circular) process design and techno-economic evaluation. As well as smart data usage, process optimization, operational business support and troubleshooting.
  • Intensive collaboration with the sales team by providing advice and information on technical solutions. Together, you are responsible for preparing project plans and arriving at a winning solution.
  • Making design calculations of complex plants for processing organic residuals, wastewater, and resource recovery, including mass balances and Opex estimates.
  • Supervise lab and pilot research, review and report test results, and translate them into customer-specific applications.
  • Conducting on-site surveys to deliver process technology consulting projects.
  • Translating theoretical knowledge and research results into (new) technological designs (e.g. PFD and P&IDs) and ensuring a successful market introduction of these products.
  • Technical reporting of the feasibility studies, recording design principles in notes or in log sheets.
  • Assist in preparation of proposal drawings, e.g. Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), and General Arrangement (GA) drawings
  • Assist with obtaining technical quotes for non-standard equipment/components.
  • Work directly with Project Engineers during technical execution of the project
  • Check the work of other Process Design Engineers
  • Mentoring and training of other Process Design Engineers
  • Ability to lead small teams of other Process Design Engineers and Sales in the development of proposals
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering, preferably in Chemical or Bioprocess technology.
  • Experience with physical/chemical, electrochemical, oxidative and/or biological purification processes.

Requirements:

  • Authorized to work for U.S. employer
  • Ability to solve problems using critical thinking, and scientific and analytical skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of process technical developments in the field of water treatment, residual stream treatment and biological treatment processes.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and advise the customer, possessing commercial awareness to translate customer demand into designs.
  • Ability to think creatively when coming up with solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required to interface with functional leaders across the company.
  • Able to work overtime as required
  • Travel < 10%
