About the role:

We’re seeking a Public Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Real Warriors Campaign’s behavioral health mission. This role contributes to the public health strategy, ensuring content and outreach activities are grounded in evidence-based practice, psychological health principles, and the lived experience of military communities.

This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. While the role has a fixed duration, we are committed to transparency and collaboration, keeping you informed about contract updates and new opportunities. Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $140,000 – $150,000. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a lead subject matter expert on psychological health, stigma reduction around seeking mental health assistance, and behavior change initiatives that increase use of available mental health resources
  • Advise on campaign messaging, content development, and public health best practices
  • Participate in partnership and stakeholder engagement efforts with Military Service Organizations, Veteran Service Organizations, and other agencies
  • Conduct needs assessments and integrate findings into outreach strategies and campaign development
  • Participate in outreach planning, monitoring, and reporting activities
  • Review communications materials to ensure public health accuracy and cultural relevance
  • Other relevant duties as assigned and qualified/trained to perform

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education required: Graduate degree (Master’s) in Public Health, Health Communication, Social/Behavioral Sciences, or a related field, plus at least 10 years of professional experience, including 3 years conducting public health outreach and education
  • Deep knowledge of psychological health promotion, stigma reduction, and suicide prevention
  • Strong writing and analytical skills; able to translate scientific data into clear public-facing messaging
  • Experience developing content for military or veteran populations
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Nice to Have Skills and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in a relevant public health or behavioral science field
  • Proven experience coordinating across federal agencies and stakeholder groups
  • Prior experience with DoD campaigns or interagency health communication efforts
