TalentFirst, a West Michigan nonprofit organization, is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Senior Accountant & Grant Administrator to join our team, with flexibility for either a part-time or full-time schedule. Part-time team members will work on-site four days per week, while full-time team members will work five days—four on-site and one off-site. This role requires a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week and reports directly to the President. As a key member of our team, you will oversee all organizational financial affairs, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our financial operations and grant administration. You'll provide strategic insights and drive impactful decision-making processes. While managing the financial affairs of the organization, our Senior Accountant & Grant Administrator will work closely with our strategic leadership team, partner with key stakeholders, and perform a diverse set of responsibilities as outlined below:

  • Establish and maintain proper financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Maintain proper documentation of all accounting transactions and journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and provide regular reporting with forecast analysis
  • Develop the annual budget, monitor variances, and provide regular reporting
  • Provide budget or cost analysis as needed for the Leadership team
  • Assist with government funding/grant requests and grant reports
  • Maintain banking relationships and reconcile accounts
  • Manage payroll and tax filings with payroll vendor
  • Oversight of employee benefits, coverage, claims, renewal, workers' compensation, and other human resource financial functions as needed
  • Assist with fundraising membership and donation records; provide reporting and analysis as needed
  • Oversee management of facilities and purchases, manage leases and service agreements
  • Cooperate with the auditing firm in the preparation of annual audits
  • Participate in quarterly Finance Subcommittee meetings
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Minimum of 7 years’ diverse accounting experience, ideally in non-profit or public administration
  • Previous experience setting up cost accounting/general ledger accounts is required
  • Solid understanding of reporting and tracking grant funds
  • Deep understanding of accounting/finance/inventory concepts, practices, procedures, and principles
  • Ability to provide strategic insight that aligns with our long-term vision, optimizes performance, and helps gain a competitive edge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to link operational metrics to financial performance
  • Expertise in Excel with knowledge of advanced features; working knowledge of Word and QuickBooks
  • Ability to deliver accurate and thorough results in a timely, consistent, and professional manner
  • Capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities
  • Able to develop successful working relationships within all functions and at all levels
