Job Description

The Senior Family Law Attorney will have at least six (6) years of experience as a Family Law Attorney. Although not required, JKZ LLP encourages attorneys with a portable book of business to apply for this position. Opportunities for career growth and partner-track are available.

Family law practice areas include dissolutions, relationship agreements, custody/visitation issues, support disputes, and property division. The Senior Family Law Attorney should have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, excellent research and writing skills, and experience in drafting settlement proposals, pleadings, discovery requests, requests for order, and trial briefs. This is a very fast paced environment, and the Senior Family Law Attorney must be able to multitask and manage a voluminous caseload. This role requires a self-starter who is willing and open to learning new skills as well as taking initiative and being proactive.

In addition to the above, the Senior Family Law Attorney may also be responsible for reviewing and overseeing the work product of associate attorneys, delegating assignments, mentoring, and training of associate attorneys and legal support personnel in the Family Law department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Manage client matters from start to finish
  • Communicate clearly with those involved in client matters
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients
  • Meet minimum billable hours requirement
  • Drafting settlement proposals, pleadings, discovery requests, requests for order, and trial briefs
  • Attendance in court throughout the Bay Area for appearances, hearings, trials, and settlement conferences

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctorate
  • Prior experience managing client communications and expectations
  • Experience with LexisNexis and/or Westlaw, Dissomaster, Xspouse, Essential Forms, and law firm client management software preferred, but not required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Proficiency in California Family Code, California Rules of Court, local rules
  • Familiarity with San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa and/or Santa Clara Superior Courts
  • Client management skills from intake through resolution
  • Positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, dependability and self-motivated
