Summary:
The Special Education Accountability and Compliance Coordinator is responsible for the development, planning, and implementation of comprehensive general supervision, compliance, and accountability systems. This system is designed to ensure that all students with disabilities within the Iosco RESA service delivery area receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in accordance with state and federal regulations. In this role, the coordinator will provide leadership, supervisory, training, and administrative guidance to the ISD and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) throughout Iosco County, supporting their efforts to meet compliance requirements and improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Education.
● 5 years of related experience in an area of special education.
● Full approval in at least one area of special education required.
● Michigan Department of Education approval for Supervisor of Special Education Full or Temporary Approval and/or willingness to obtain one.
● State of Michigan approved K-12 administrative or central office certification and/or willingness to obtain one. (Completion of continuing education requirements as stated in the School Code § 380.1246.)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
● Provide general supervision and leadership within Special Education to ensure FAPE for students with disabilities in the Iosco RESA service area.
● Oversee and implement the monitoring process using MDE’s Catamaran system.
● Offer technical assistance to LEAs/PSAs on Special Education programs, services, and monitoring.
● Support the Special Education Director in ensuring compliance and collaborating with LEA teams to develop approaches to the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
● Stay up to date on laws, regulations, research, and best practices related to Special Education and Early Intervention.
● Develop, implement, and support county-wide policies, procedures, and practices while fostering positive relationships.
● Participate in and provide updates at meetings on topics like curriculum, transition, monitoring, and communities of practice.
● Meet all deadlines and documentation requirements for Iosco RESA,following the state, and federal mandates.
● Maintain a supportive work environment that attracts and retains high-performing staff.
● Coordinate and manage data and assessment systems.
● Regularly report to administration on developments, issues, or concerns and make recommendations for adjustments to services.
● Collaborate with Iosco RESA and local teams to implement strategies that enhance student learning, outcomes, and compliance.
● Monitor and evaluate Special Education programs and services for compliance and quality.
● Assist the LEA Superintendent and LEA Special Education Designee with corrective actions for monitoring and compliance violations.
● Attend meetings, in-services, and conferences including required overnight out of district
● Be proficient in using various computer systems and platforms, including EdPlan/PCG, Catamaran, Medicaid Documentation/Reimbursement, DRC, OEAA, MRS, Do-All, Transition Programming, and MSDS.
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Salary/Benefits:
This is a full-time, 210-day contracted position. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s educational background and experience.
